TSCP21  COMPREHENSIVE SEMINAR II: PATRISTIC PERSPECTIVES (A.Y. 2024/2025)

Objectives: To offer a comprehensive vision of theology in the context of the Church Fathers’ unique, perennially valid contribution.

Learning outcomes: The student will be capable of (a) articulating an integrated view of dogmatic theology in the light of the Church’s ancient tradition and its posterior development, (b) reading the Church’s tradition according to a hermeneutic of continuity, and (c) comprehending the constitutions and decrees of the Second Vatican Council rooted in the Church’s bimillennial tradition.

Contents: The seminar considers principal themes in dogmatic, fundamental, and moral theology in light of the Church’s patristic theological heritage and its posterior development culminating in the Second Vatican Council.

Methodology : Each week the student will be responsible for a set of assigned readings and an obligatory essay (3 pages in length.)

Means of evaluation : I semester: research paper (10 pages) and participation in group discussions. II semester: the weekly essays of the entire course and participation in group discussions.
