The volume, edited by R. Regoli, R. Piccioni, I. Fiumi Sermattei, is part of the multi-year research program promoted by the cultural association “Sulla pietra di Genga” and supported by the Municipality of Genga. Every year an aspect of the pontificate of Leone XII (1823-1829) is studied in depth with monographic volumes published by the Legislative Assembly of the Region of Marche.

The intent is to celebrate, in 2023, the bicentenary of the election of Leone XII to the papal throne with a real growth in studies, gathering the results of the research undertaken over the years. The volume, after the premises of Dino Latini and Valerio Barberis, includes the essays of Alfonso Alibrandi, Francesco Barto­lini, Matteo Binasco, Monica Calzolari, Andrea Cicerchia, Maria Ciotti, Augu­sto Ciuffetti, Chiara Coletti, Ninfa Conti­giani, Piero Crociani, Maria Carmela De Marino, Ilaria Fiumi Sermattei, Mathieu Grenet, Virgilio Ilari, Maria Lupi, Stefa­nia Petrillo, Maria Antonietta Quesada, Roberto Regoli, Donatella Strangio.
