PENSARE LA MODERNITÀ

MICHEL DE CERTEAU

Moving between history, anthropology, sociology, philosophy and theology, Michel de Certeau (1925-1986) has been able to develop a specific analysis and diagnosis of modernity, its paradigm epistemic, political, social and cultural. Issues such as those related to the relationship between writing and morality, proper place and otherness, institutions and beliefs, just to name a few, run through the works of the French Jesuit, opening up a vast interpretative potential. In light of this, the roundtable aims to discuss Certeau as a true “thinker of modernity,” as well as on the meaning and  questions that his reflection can raise in the present.
A time that, if on the surface it now claims to be marked by a horizon of the “post” (post-modernity, post-truth, post-realism, post-humanism), actually does not stop defining and redefine itself in relation to the “modern”: a kind of “phantasmal father” who, through his foundations and impositions, continues to dictate its law, mocking attempts to dispose of it.
