PERCHÉ PIANGI?

The colloquium, organized with the patronage of the La Gregoriana Foundation, is part of the Historical Archive's initiatives aimed at making its heritage known to a wider circle of scholars. The Archive Workshops take place in two moments: in the morning the speakers illustrate the theme of the day and, in the afternoon, a seminar is held relating to a manuscript preserved in APUG. In this case the intricate papers of the Sicilian Jesuit Luigi La Nuza (1591-1656). The question "Why are you crying?" crosses the times: from classical reading through biblical reading. Luisa Ciammitti, author of the volume L'Arca di Niccolò. Reflections and documents (Marsilio, 2022), will present us with his research, the result of meticulous archival excavation. His observations will be compared with those of Bernadette Majorana who will deal with popular preaching in the 17th century through the documentary relics that have come down to us. Finally, the Jesuit historiographer Martin M. Morales will analyse the variety of contexts in which the question "Why are you crying" was asked, guiding the viewer between the lines of apparently illegible papers.
