Spiritualità e secolarizzazione

As the term spirituality has been spreading since the 20th century, it now seems to predominate over another, much older term: religion. The former, due to its semantic breadth, embraces a large number of experiences, sometimes different and even opposing. The second, is often presented as both divisive and a source of possible conflict. In any case, spirituality and religion must be combined in a world that represents itself as secularised. In this one day event, organised by the Historical Archives, we will confront this complexity. Guided by Prof. Sergio Belardinelli (University of Bologna) will explore the ambiguity of these two concepts, in order to also consider the opportunities that contemporary society can offer to the roles of religion and spirituality.

A donation enabled the restoration of codex F.C. 1055, one of the oldest specimens preserved in the Historical Archives. This document, entitled Miscellanea ascetica, contains a series of texts representative of what is now called 'Ignatian spirituality'. An exhibition of 16th and 17th century manuscripts from the Fondo Varia Spiritualia will be organised for the occasion, and all the stages of the restoration of the FC 1055 codex carried out in the WYP's Laboratory for Manuscript Diagnostics and Restoration will be presented.
