Objectives: The course will introduce students to the concept of a “prevention plan”. It will also bring students to reflect on the needs they might have in their own contexts, as they prepare a draft of a prevention plan to spread a culture safeguarding once back home.
Learning Outcomes: At the end of the course, the students will be able to create a prevention plan that is adapted to their cultures and environments. They will develop a culturally sensitive prevention plan for a specific school, hospital, residential home, etc.
Content: Various approaches to prevention and the elements which make them effective; analysis of existing prevention programs in the various cultures and professional fields with regard to their effectiveness; risk and protective factors in church-related institutions such as schools, residential facilities (boarding schools, children’s homes, etc.), hospitals, houses of formation, parishes, universities, and communities; development of a prevention project or strategy for a church-related institution.
Methodology: The course will combine lectures, readings, and seminar discussion and will focus on a range of selected texts.
Means of evaluation: Evaluation will be based on class participation and a project.
It will be indicated at the beginning of the course.
